Will ChatGPT (AI) replace Lawyer (Spoiler: It depends)

Will ChatGPT (AI) replace Lawyer (Spoiler: It depends)

No. Not if you are a good one.

AI is like having a Doraemon in your computer, who is intelligent. It could learn. It could solve problem. It could make decisions. It could even improve itself and predict the future. It could pass the bar exam. It could draft contract. It surely knows more about contract laws than me. (Damn! Sounds like a formidable opponent.)

Well - sadly, a lawyer could could merely pass the bar exam, draft contract, and know about contracts law could be replaced. (No disrespect to my friends who are great at these.)

A lawyer isn't just someone who knows legal rules and procedures. We listen, understand your unique situation, and provide tailored guidance, empathically. A (good) divorce lawyer understands the pain and struggle in fighting for custody; a (good) corporate lawyer understands there are commercial needs in every decision; a (good) insurance lawyer knows there is a victim's livelihood behind a car accident.

We are human, and we are conscious, and we could step into others' shoes (I know that someone may disagree.) As intelligent as ChatGPT is, it does not understand what is the pain of losing a foot, or worse, a marriage.

We go to school for twenty years. With Moore's law, technology is only growing faster every day. 20 years ago, iPhone didn't exist, you have just added your first friend on Facebook, and Netflix was still a DVD exchange platform (How did we watch any entertaining shows back then?)

My friend - Hold on to this exciting ride. Try to learn as fast as you could, be kind, be a human and do what a machine can't. By doing so, there is a chance that you would not be left behind.
